This book is a study of the Imperial German colonial forces (Schutztruppe
and Polizeitruppe) in Africa.
Over many years of research, the author has
collected a mass of information on the formation,
deployment, uniforms, weapons, equipment and other details of
these units. Much of which, is presented here for the first time
in the English language.
The study is
not just limited to the two larger colonies of German South West
Africa and German East Africa but also includes an overview of
Germany's forces in Togo and Cameroon, which
helps close an important gap in the study
of military history.
The new book is a translation of Reinhard Schnieder's original
German 'Die Kaiserliche Schutz- und Polizeitruppe für Afrika' published by
Druffel & Volwinkel-Verlag in 2005. This new English language edition contains many more
previously unseen
historical photographs and photographs of modern collections
including many from the Helmut Weitze and Jan K Kube specialist
military antique dealers. Translation by Chris Dale. Book design by Ingo Priebe.
